Personal Background

I have lived in Prince George's County for 16 years. I have been married 18 years and have five children. My oldest recently graduated from Eleanor Roosevelt High School. I have three other children attending Prince George's County Public Schools, and a fifth child who will also attend when he is of age. I attended Howard University where I received a B.A. in Economics in 1984. I then attended and graduated from Georgetown University Law Center where I received a J.D. (1988) and Capital Bible Seminary where I received a Masters Degree in Christian Counseling (2005). My experience includes work as an attorney, counselor, volunteer mediator in the community and the District Court and as an ombudsman for a school system. I have been successful working with a school board and school administration to resolve conflict in a school system and understand the roles of a school board and administration as well as the benefits of working collaboratively with parents and administration to resolve school-based concerns. My experience also includes working with administrators and employees to resolve employment-related conflict in a school system. Advocating for families requiring special education services, I have provided pro bono services in the County and understand some of the challenges facing the special education programs. Committed to serve in my community, I serve as a commissioner on the Governor's Commission on Service and Volunteerism and as a board member with the Prince George's Volunteer Center, Inc..
